Archiving After EMR System Replacement: Perspective of a Hospital CIO

EHR Systems

5 hospitals + 1 new hospital + 3 systems = a need for efficiency. That equation motivated Richard Shirey, SVP and CIO of Hartford Healthcare, and his team to begin exploring conversion into a single EMR.

With six acute-care hospitals and a network of clinical centers, it was paramount to develop a full-scale implementation plan, including a strategy around decommissioning legacy systems and archiving patient data.

After choosing Epic as the go-forward EMR system, the Hartford Healthcare team turned its attention to the archiving strategy. Taking into account the three major EMRs and 20 additional applications with valuable legacy data, the following goals were set:

  1. Consolidate numerous legacy data silos into a single archive, accessible via Single
    Sign-On from Epic
  2. Reduce costs
  3. Comply with record retention mandates

Check. Check. And check.

How was it accomplished?

Hear Richard Shirey, in his own words, describe why Harmony Healthcare IT was Hartford Healthcare’s  choice to safely and successfully execute its legacy data management plan.
