EHR Meaningful Use Database to be Built

Summary

CMS selects Northrop Grumman for nationwide database tracking EHR incentive payments.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to develop a nationwide database for tracking accurate electronic health record (EHR) incentive payment processing transactions to healthcare professionals, agencies and institutions.

The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) National Level Repository task order was awarded under the Enterprise System Development (ESD) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract. Northrop Grumman’s Information Systems sector was awarded the ESD contract in 2007.

Northrop Grumman will design, develop, implement and maintain the data repository that supports the administration and incentive payment disbursements of Medicare and Medicaid programs to medical professionals, hospitals and other organizations.

“As the United States undergoes a significant transformation of its healthcare system, the National Level Repository will meet a critical need by processing millions of transactions to provide correct and accurate payments to our countless professionals, institutions and state agencies that are serving the medical needs of our citizens,” said Amy King, Northrop Grumman’s vice president of health information technology programs. “We will leverage our technical expertise and vast experience with CMS to provide a secure and efficient database for extending health benefits.”

The National Level Repository will provide CMS with an agile, flexible and scalable solution that will help meet the evolving requirements of the HITECH Act, which promotes the adoption and meaningful use of health information technology to improve patient care.

The task order is valued at approximately $34 million over one year with five and one-half year option periods.

Northrop Grumman’s teammates include Companion Data Services, Columbia, S.C.; and InnovTech, Ashburn, Va.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
