According to the Department of Health and Human Services, the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology and the Drummond Group now can test and certify products from EMR vendors to ensure that they meet “meaningful use” criteria. Meaningful use criteria are a set of standards that healthcare providers must meet to qualify for federal funds under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, a part of the 2009 economic stimulus package. These companies were announed at the end of August by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
