Summer Health IT Interns Contribute as They Learn

Harmony Healthcare IT Interns

Seven bright college students spent their summer interning with several teams at Harmony Healthcare IT (HHIT). We think it is great to have industry veterans work alongside university students.

Here’s what the interns have to say:

Anthony – junior at University of Dayton; communications major; marketing minor
My internship has been the most valuable experience I’ve had in terms of developing professionally. I’ve been around many great minds who have valuable and meaningful experience in the industry. I’ve been fortunate enough to sit in on many sales calls in which I learned a lot about our products and services from a client’s perspective.

Jake – sophomore at University of Dayton; Discover Business major
I have gained a lot of experience through meetings as well as different company “All Calls” to provide me with a range of knowledge including internal parts of the company and learning about how we support our clients.

Joe – senior at IUSB; computer science major
It’s exciting to build something that enhances people’s lives. Because of this experience, I have a greater understanding of working with applications such as: SSMS, pentaho, pgAdmin, Clarizen and Jira.

Rachel – senior at IUPUI; Health Information Management – major
My supervisor, Nick Moskolis, has always gone above and beyond to teach me about the development team and has even made extra time for additional professional development. I am excited to announce my internship has been extended through the school year!

Jimmy – senior at Notre Dame; major in business analytics and economics with a concentration in finance
I worked to support the Project Management team in everything they did. Much of my time was spent working with Project Management software so that the team could grow and take on new initiatives more efficiently. After working at Harmony I know that I’d prefer a similarly-sized organization with the same rapid growth, opportunity for internal promotion, and work-life balance that I found here.

Audrey – senior at Saint Mary’s College with a major in statistical and actuarial mathematics
I believe that internships are really important. Harmony has strengthened and developed my skills that will greatly help me in school and in the future.  I have significantly improved in my overall knowledge of SQL and Harmony has strengthened my communication, critical thinking, technical proficiency and receptiveness.

Ben – senior at Indiana University; informatics major; business minor
I had the luxury of being at Harmony for the second time around this summer and it has been great. This summer I was able to change my role and work within the System’s Analyst department compared to the business analyst, now implementation specialist role, I had last summer. I have learned so much more in terms of the technical work Harmony does. I have been able to get a first-hand experience of SQL server management tools, deploys, extracts, restores, etc.

“Our internship program continues to be mutually beneficial,” says Laurie Seall, Director of ETL & Data Management. “We get some extra bandwidth over the summer with our data mining, mapping, analysis and implementation.  Our interns get technical and professional work experience alongside some of the best in the business.  The growth works both ways.  We’re happy to have established relationships with local colleges and see the talent first-hand.”
