MGMA CEO Advises to Take It Slow on Stimulus

Summary

Stephen Lieber suggests electronic health record rollout, while Jessee waits for clear incentives and guidelines. Harmony Healthcare IT offers web-based CCHIT-certified medical records.

In sharp contrast to advice from Stephen Lieber, president and CEO of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), that now is the time to begin planning the roll out of electronic health recordsthe CEO of the Medical Group Management Association, William Jessee, M.D., advises that group practices should take a “wait and see” attitude before plunging into plans for capitalizing on the federal economic stimulus package.

Jessee says that there are too many unanswered questions about the details of the stimulus incentives, including

  • the definition of “meaningful use” of a certified electronic health record
  • whether the Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology will be designated as the official certifier of systems
  • clarity on the what “certified” means

Physicians and vendors continue to wait for a clear set of guidelines that will make everyone comfortable in moving forward.

In the meantime, Harmony Healthcare IT stands ready to demo its web-based CCHIT-certified electronic medical record for any practice that is pro-actively evaluating certified systems at this point in time.  Contact us to schedule time for a demonstration.
