Incentives to Doctors for Prescribing Electronically

Summary

Medical practices may gain 2% Medicare reimbursements through e-prescribing technology.

In 2009 and 2010, your medical practice may realize a 2% gain in Medicare reimbursements. What’s the catch? You need to trade in your prescription pads for e-prescribing technology.

Commencing on the first of January, 2009, the federal government will motivate physicians to prescribe electronically by paying them an extra two percent on their reimbursement rates for Medicare treatments. The two percent incentive will last through 2010 before dipping to one percent in the years 2011 and 2012 and then to .5 percent in 2013.
