EHR Meaningful Use Registrations On the Rise

In August, 13,000 healthcare providers signed up for the meaningful use program, a 30% increase from July. CMS issued Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments, totaling $652 million for the year.

According to iHealthBeat, about 13,000 eligible health care providers signed up in August for the meaningful use program, an increase of 30% from July.  That’s in addition to the 90,000 health care providers that had registered for the electronic health record meaningful use incentive program by the end of August.

In terms of stimulus funding, the article reports that CMS issued Medicare incentive payments to 1,000 physicians in August, nearly double the figure from July.  In addition, 23 states as of August launched their Medicaid meaningful use programs, and, Medicaid incentive payments were issued to about 1,300 physicians and other eligible professionals last month, an increase of 23% from July.

So, what are the total monies released?  CMS issued $264 million in incentive payments last month and $652 million for the year to date.
