CMS ends enforcement discretion period for Version 5010 standards on June 30, 2012, requiring medical practices to comply by July 1, 2012.

As released by The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today, CMS will end its enforcement discretion period for Version 5010 standards on June 30, 2012. This means that medical practices must be fully compliant with all of the upgraded transaction standards for ASC X12 Version 5010 (Version 5010) by this deadline.

As of July 1, 2012, non compliance with 5010 standards will be subject to enforcement action under the existing HIPAA transaction and code set enforcement process.
