AHRQ to Identify Barriers to Medicaid Providers Achieving Meaningful Use of EHRs

Summary

AHRQ to study barriers to Medicaid providers’ adoption of electronic health records, recommending Stages 2 and 3 meaningful use criteria.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) will conduct a two-year study to identify barriers to Medicaid providers achieving electronic health records meaningful use criteria.

The study will draw from over one dozen focus groups of eligible Medicaid providers–some of which have adopted an EHR and some of which have not.  The finding from the focus groups will inform a set of recommendations by AHRQ on the development of Stages 2 and 3 meaningful use criteria and other ways to overcome barriers, such as technical assistance.
