Maximize Data Impact

Streamline MEDITECH Data Access. Unlock New Possibilities.

Your MEDITECH data should transform operations and drive better decisions. The challenge is accessing it, in real time, from the transactional system. OpenGate and Flux remove the barriers, giving you both real-time data access and complete historical visibility.

Common Data Access Challenges & How We Solve Them

MEDITECH Data Access Challenges

When you can’t easily access real-time data in the MEDITECH transactional system, your organization misses out on critical opportunities:

  • Inefficient processes and complex workarounds waste resources and frustrate staff.
  • Limited access and integration hinder full utilization of external applications and third-party platforms.
  • Blind spots in transactional data changes prevent effective tracking of edits and trend analysis.
  • Over-reliance on the data repository leads to delayed reporting and slower decision-making.

FAQs

What is OpenGate?

OpenGate is an ADO.NET database driver that provides direct, real-time access to MEDITECH data. It connects to Magic, C/S, M-AT (6.x), and Expanse systems, allowing users to run SQL-style queries and make MEDITECH data instantly available to external applications, dashboards, and analytics platforms.

What is Flux?

Flux is a MEDITECH data capture solution that continuously records every transactional change within MEDITECH. It supplies these changes via push notifications and/or via saving these changes in SQL Server or any standard database, creating a complete historical record of edits, deletions, and trends over time.

How are OpenGate and Flux different?

OpenGate provides direct access to current MEDITECH data, while Flux delivers real-time tracking of all data changes. OpenGate allows custom querying of the MEDITECH transactional system, while Flux automatically sends out any new changes for selected data. Together, they provide complete visibility into both current and past information across your MEDITECH environment.

Do I need both OpenGate and Flux?

It depends on your needs. Use OpenGate for real-time dashboards, operational applications, and current reporting along with historical record retrieval. Use Flux for audit trails, trend analysis, compliance tracking, and custom interfaces. Many organizations implement both solutions for comprehensive data visibility.

Do I need to duplicate my MEDITECH data to use the OpenGate solution?

No. OpenGate queries MEDITECH data directly in real-time, and Flux captures changes as they occur — without duplicating or replicating the entire databases. Both are designed to avoid synchronization issues and maintain performance.

How does the Flux solution capture and track MEDITECH data?

Flux monitors MEDITECH transactional databases and automatically tracks changes as they occur. It records the data exactly as it appeared at that moment in time, including information that may later be modified or deleted. This creates a comprehensive audit trail without requiring data duplication or impacting MEDITECH system performance.

Will the OpenGate solution impact my MEDITECH system performance?

No. OpenGate is optimized for MEDITECH architecture and uses system indexes to run highly efficient queries. It provides real-time data access with minimal system load or performance impact.

Will the Flux solution impact my MEDITECH system performance?

No. Flux captures data changes efficiently and operates parallel to your production MEDITECH environment. It doesn’t interfere with clinical workflows, reporting, or day-to-day system performance.

What development tools can I use with OpenGate?

OpenGate works with any .NET-compatible application and integrates with SQL Server, Excel, Web Services, and many other modern development platforms.

Can OpenGate access all MEDITECH data fields?

Yes. OpenGate provides complete access to all stored MEDITECH data fields, including both NPR and Focus data, allowing organizations to build robust, data-driven applications.

What can I build with OpenGate?

OpenGate enables real-time, data-powered applications such as dashboards, custom reports, APIs, portals, alert boards, and more.

How far back can Flux capture data?

Flux begins capturing data from the moment it’s implemented and builds a comprehensive historical record going forward.

What's the difference between Flux, OpenGate, and the MEDITECH Data Repository (DR)?

The MEDITECH DR is designed to mirror current transactional data, but it doesn’t capture historical changes or maintain audit trails of how data looked at specific points in time. Flux specifically captures every change as it happens, creating a comprehensive historical record that shows how data evolved over time — including edits and deletions that would be lost in the DR. OpenGate can access transactional data real-time where DR can be delayed. In addition, OpenGate can access all transactional data, including data not included in DR. Lastly, OpenGate can access historical changes to data in the transactional database whereas DR does not provide any type of historical lookback at data.

Can the OpenGate and Flux solutions work together?

Yes. OpenGate and Flux are designed to complement each other. OpenGate provides direct real-time data access, while Flux captures real-time changes in the transactional database along with long-term historical data for audit trails and trend analysis. Used together, they provide full visibility across current and historical MEDITECH data.
